Streams of thought trickled into her mind in all directions at once, before escaping through her eyes, at first devoid of life, now brimming over with the the raw strength of her sadness.
Her spirit had been broken, and hope no longer held any meaning for her. She used to blush at his name, yet now his name was but a sob.
Seconds and minutes, like a dancing pair, whirled and twirled around her, and the ticking clock mocked her with its uncaring tsk, tsk, tsk.
She had never minded waiting in line for him, clutching his scribbled note to her heart like a queue number, quietly watching and listening for him to call out for her. Never anxious, ever patient, she sat through the days of her life, occupying her time, but doing so only as a distraction until he had time for her.
She granted herself no abeyance, fearful of missing his smile, afraid to be out of range from his voice. She took her hard seat willingly, occasionally catching glimpses of him, like sunshine through a glass prism, fleeting fragments of her love.
When she felt she could wait no longer she pushed open the door after several hesitant knocks, and there, overwhelming emptiness swallowed her whole; Her promised turn had been skipped, she had been forgotten a long time ago.
